HUD Awards $98 Million to Provide Permanent Housing and Services to Low-Income People with Disabilities; PA to receive $5.7M

On February 12, 2013, HUD and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that they are providing $98M in funding to 13 state housing finance agencies “for rental assistance to extremely low-income persons with disabilities, many of whom are transitioning out of institutional settings or are at high risk of homelessness.” The funds are being provided as part of the Section 811 Project Rental Assistance Demonstration Program (PRA Demo). The PRA Demo will help integrate low-income persons with disabilities to live in integrated mainstream settings.

The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) is being awarded $5,707,800 as part of the PRA Demo. PHFA will prioritize the use of these funds for:  “persons with disabilities who are institutionalized; those at risk of institutionalization, and those currently living in congregate settings who desire to move into the community.”
