GAO Reviews Housing Programs, Finds Opportunities for Cooperatioin and Consolidation

Recently, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report that discusses the many areas of overlap in the federal system of housing programs.  The GAO found that twenty entities administer 160 programs, which often have the same or similar goals, but different procedures or requirements.  The report highlights that overlap exists in both single and multi-family housing programs, as well as rental and homeownership programs.  The report concludes with a recommendation that agencies and program administers consider opportunities for coordination or consolidation.
