On August 9th, Regional Housing Legal Services (RHLS) celebrated the groundbreaking of St. John Neumann Place II, which will provide 52 one-bedroom units for seniors in South Philadelphia, as well as a wellness center. Developed by Catholic Health Care Services, the project is a continuation of their effort to convert the former St. John Neumann Catholic High School to serve the community. Completion of the construction is expected in fall of 2017.
Catholic Health Care Services is a “leading provider of senior services for the Philadelphia region,” assisting area seniors in remaining independent and in their communities for as long as possible.
The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) has approved $12 million in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits for the project. Additional funding includes Project Based Vouchers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration Program.
RHLS Chief Counsel, Mark Levin and Director of Economic Development, Laura Schwartz represented Catholic Health Care Services, providing services such as the drafting of architect and construction projects, reviewing loan and title documents, acting as key members of the development team, and preparing the partnership for closing.
