In addition to providing free
legal services, RHLS promotes collaborative solutions by assisting
other legal services organizations and convening supporters
of affordable housing as needed to maximize the efficacy of
Pennsylvania’s affordable housing
and community development programs.
How We Work
RHLS works in four areas:
- Affordable Housing & Community
Development Services: The main branch of RHLS focuses
on improving affordable housing opportunities and community
and economic development throughout Pennsylvania.
- Housing Law Project (HLP): Through HLP, RHLS provides
statewide support to legal services programs that address
issues of affordable housing.
- The Pennsylvania Utility Law Project
(PULP): RHLS
works closely with PULP in order to provide information,
assistance, and advice about low income residential utility
and energy matters.
- HEMAP Help Center: RHLS established this web site
to provide support for individuals seeking assistance through
the Homeowners Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (HEMAP),
a program of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.
With a staff of 13, including 10 attorneys, RHLS serves about
60 community-based organizations per year, and is engaged in
numerous efforts to change and promote policies in its areas
of focus. Headquartered in Glenside and with offices in Harrisburg,
Gettysburg, and Pittsburgh, RHLS has been involved in hundreds
of millions of dollars of development projects since its inception
in 1973. |
