The Shale Gas Boom in Central PA is Contributing to Homelessness

A new article looks at the loss of affordable housing in areas impacted by Marcellus Shale. The article finds that property prices are going up very quickly, pushing people out of communities and in some cases to homelessness. The article includes a story about a landlord who, when the tenants who had been living in a 2 bedroom unit moved out, made some improvements and listed the property at $2,150/month, up from $700/month.
